The first time I saw Fontaines D.C. was back in 2023, when they were opening for Arctic Monkeys. At the time, they were still a much smaller band, and I remember people around me wondering who they were or saying they weren’t into the music. I was instantly hooked.

They were mainly playing songs from Skinty Fia, an album that continued gaining attention after the tour, with “I Love You” becoming especially popular on social media. Since then, the band has released Romance along with two additional singles over the past year.

One of those songs, “Marianne,” was released this past August and has already become a favorite of mine. The band has also been playing the song live at recent festivals in the UK while teasing that new music is on the way.

When the Los Angeles show was announced, I immediately signed up for the presale and reached out through my publication to request photo access. A few days later, we were approved.

Seeing this band grow from opening shows to headlining their own dates and appearing on major festival lineups has been incredible.

The Los Angeles show took place at Hollywood Forever Cemetery, with fans spread across the lawn on blankets while others gathered closer to the stage. The setting gave the night a relaxed, communal feel that paired surprisingly well with Fontaines D.C.’s music.

There were families there with their children, groups of friends, longtime fans, and people who seemed to be discovering the band in real time.

At one point during the show, I was talking with a member of the security staff who asked me about the band and where they were from. While we were talking, “I Love You” started playing, and he immediately recognized it. He was surprised to realize it was Fontaines D.C. and said that, after hearing more of their set, he wanted to give the band another listen.

Overall, the show felt intimate despite the size of the space, bringing together longtime fans, families, friends, and even a few new listeners along the way. I’ve had “Marianne” on repeat since it was released, and after this night, I’m even more excited to see what Fontaines D.C. does next.
