A Lot Like Birds Bring the Energy to the Tour Opener

A Lot Like Birds performed live for the first time on September 8 during their tour with Hail the Sun, captivating the audience with energetic performances, including their new song “Mausoleum.” They celebrated 15 years of their album, Conversation Piece.

A Lot Like Birds have been one of those bands I had yet to catch live, so finally getting the chance to see and photograph them for the first time was easily one of my September highlights.

The band joined Hail the Sun for the opening night of Cut. Tour. Fade. Back. Part Two on September 8, delivering a set that had the crowd moving almost immediately. Kurt Travis and Andy Cizek were relentless throughout the performance and, in my opinion, stole the show. Both frontmen commanded the stage as moshing and pits broke out across the room.

The night also marked the live debut of A Lot Like Birds’ new song, “Mausoleum.” The track shifted the atmosphere in the room as the crowd opened up the pit, giving the unreleased addition to the set an enthusiastic first reception.

The performance also celebrated 15 years of Conversation Piece, one of the band’s early albums. To close out the set, A Lot Like Birds reached all the way back to the beginning, ending the night with the first song they ever wrote.

A Lot Like Birds will continue touring with Hail the Sun through October 2. If you have the chance to catch them along the way, they’re well worth seeing. And with Kurt Travis and Andy Cizek both involved in projects outside of A Lot Like Birds, there’s plenty more to follow once this run comes to an end.
